The plot is located in a residential area outside the city center and in a short distance from the waterfront. The building’s volume is developed following the geometry of the plot and is slightly elevated from street level to ensure the privacy of the ground floor. The block is located at the junction of the two streets to leave free space on the east side.
Three levels are defined where three L-shaped apartments are formed, respectively. On the east side are placed the private spaces and on the southwest side the living spaces. The entrance of the building is on the west side where the common area of the staircase is developed. The ground floor apartment follows a similar layout as well as access to a private courtyard on the east side of the plot.
On the southwest side of the building is placed a L-shaped structure that embraces the corner of the volume. This structure shapes the main facade of the building and has a dual role. Initially, it provides the apartments an access to outdoor covered areas that are protected from the intense sunshine during the summer season. As a result, the living space is maximised and it becomes pleasant to stay in it. In addition, it acquires the role of an urban membrane between public and private space, mainly protecting the privacy of the ground floor.
Emphasis is placed on the textures and the form of the materials and as a consequence an attempt is made to discolour them: white coloured metal and wood, rough plaster, exposed concrete.
